July 28 Leaving for home.
Awake at 5:45.
David had left early in the morning for his flight to Montreal via Brussels then on to Halifax.
Down for breakfast at 7 with Roger and Stephen. It was extensive and very good - 14£.
Left for the airport by shuttle at 8am. Dropped us off at Terminal 2.
Had to wait a few minutes for the check in desks to open but from there it went easily. Dropped our golf clubs at the designated oversize baggage carousel and then made our way to the security and then on to the departure zone.
Spent some time looking at the shops and duty free. In the end all I bought was a package of McVities biscuits and some shortbread biscuits for Carol.
Lots of time to kill so had a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll.
they announced our gate at 10:50 and it was only an 8 minute walk from the dining area. Easy check in after a 30 minute wait. Taxied out of the airport at 12:40, 35 minutes late. In the air at 1:00.
We are flying with Omni Air International a partner of Air Canada. The crew seem very nice. Flight should take about 8 hours.
Sunny skies when we left but we won't see any.
About an hour in they served a meal. I chose the chicken with rice and vegetables. It was very good. They also gave me two bottles of white wine. I still had my glayva glass that David had given me so that added a touch of class.
Watched a Nicholas Cage western that was predictable but entertaining.
Tried to read the Map book Al MacNeill had loaned me but kept nodding off so I gave up and tried for some sleep. It wasn't very restful but helped.
They came round and gave us 2 more bottles of wine and a chicken wrap for supper. I gave back the 4th bottle of wine; no need to overindulge.
Watched a gratuitous violent movie called Nobody with Roger on his IPad using subtitles.
The flight was uneventful and we arrived at Toronto on the tarmac at 3:25, 7 hours 25 minute flight. Because there was another large plane at the next gate we were still on the plane at 4:15. Then the bridge was broken and had to be repaired but that happened fairly quickly.
Deplaned and a long walk to customs which went fairly quickly. At our gate by 4:45.
Called and left a message for Carol. Good to hear her voice even on an answering machine. She called back a few minutes later and it was so mice to speak with her. She has such a warm, loving, caring voice.
Took the opportunity to check my carry on bag and they gave me Priority boarding. Actually all 3 of us ended up doing that.
I read Julie's blog on her safari in Tanzania. It is fascinating and so well written. What an experience.
Flight is delayed pending arrival of crew. Once on it is further delayed due to a maintenance issue. It was scheduled to leave at 6:25, now 7:15. On the plane for another hour, took off at 8:15. Arrived in Halifax about 10:30. Luggage and golf bags collected after a reasonable wait.
I saw some lovely things while I was away in the UK but by far this was the best one yet.
Great trip but glad to be home. The End.
I'm glad you're home too!
