July 23 Llanbedr
Up at 6:30. After breakfast we packed our clubs and drove the small roads to Porthmadog. 15 miles takes about 35 minutes. At least there was hardly any
traffic. We were early for our game but decided based on the iffy weather forecast for today vs tomorrow that we would delay our game for a day. We bought a couple of buckets of balls and went to the driving range for about half an hour. Roger, David and I reserved an electric trolley for tomorrow and Steve will have a buggy.
After Steve finished hitting more balls we drove back through town and stopped at Tesco. We got extra supplies and then headed for home. It was still only 11 am so we each did our own thing, wandering about the small town of Llanbedr. Roger and I stopped into an old church, St Peter's.
At noon we went to the Victoria Inn, Robinsons and had lunch. I had a roast pork dinner that was excellent. They also have a wonderful back garden with a covered arbor for eating and plantings. The place was full with families thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Back to our lodgings about 1:15.
We sat on our back deck and shared drinks and swapping stories for a couple of hours.
Stayed in touch with The Open on the internet.
About 5:30 we walked back down to the Ty Mawr. Had a beer and watched The Open on their TV. Brian Harman has a 6 stroke lead and will ultimately win.
We were able to order supper at 6:45 and were prompt to do so. Dave and I had a ploughman's lunch with ham, Roger a steak and ale pie and Steve a fish pie.
It was all excellent. More beer and wine followed according to preference.
Had a great talk with the owner and staff at the Pub.
Also were advised by two lady golfers that we should play Aberdovey Golf Course. Weather looks great.
When we got home we booked a tee time for 3pm Wednesday. It's about an hour away.
By 9:30 everyone was off to bed.
Ps. They are having huge rainstorms in Nova Scotia. I know that Carol and my traveling companions properties and families are safe.
Sounds like a great day. Beautiful church! How do you get on the deck?
